Valve reworked the CS2 crosshair in the "Rush Hour" update (22 September 2026) and has kept improving it since. If your old crosshair suddenly looks wrong, this is why, and here's how to set up the new one properly.
Where to find it
- Go to Settings → Crosshair/Scopes. This tab was added in the update.
- The default crosshair is now "Dynamic Quad", which shows your weapon's accuracy more honestly.
The big change: values are now in pixels
- Thickness, length and gap are now set in real pixels. The old system used a made-up scale that gave different sizes at different resolutions.
- If you want a 1 px thick crosshair with 8 px lines and a 4 px gap, set thickness 1, length 8, gap 4.
- The crosshair scales with your resolution. A crosshair made at 1280×720 with 2 px thickness becomes 4 px at 2560×1440, so it keeps the same proportions.
- A gap of 0 now works properly.
New styles and options
- Static Square and Static Quadrant styles
- Half-outlines, which draw only the top and left parts of the outline
- An outline colour option
- Negative gaps for the classic dynamic style, plus finer alpha steps (0.01)
Dynamic crosshairs now show real spread
The new dynamic styles show your weapon's actual spread and inaccuracy. The Dynamic Spread Limit setting caps how far the crosshair opens up, and the minimum spread distance is 64 px.
Two handy tricks
- Grenade crosshairs now work during freeze time. Hold any grenade attack button to line up an insta-smoke before the round starts.
- Share codes have a new format. They now include scope dot size and colour, so codes made before late September may not carry everything over. Make a fresh code once your crosshair is set.
Quick setup tip
Start with a static style and pick a bright colour with an outline so you can see it on every map. Then try a dynamic style for a few deathmatch games to learn how much your spray really spreads.
