Facepunch has switched on the yearly Rust Halloween event, announced on 22 October 2026. It runs until 5 November, so there's just under two weeks to farm candy, build a monster and try the rifts. Here's what's in it.
Candy Hunt
- It starts roughly every two in-game days.
- You get 3 minutes to collect as much candy as you can. The top 3 players get special loot bags.
- Candy and loot bags can give anything from scrap up to an M249.
- If you don't reach the top 3, you can still upgrade your candy for better loot.
Here Be Monsters
- Kill the scarecrows and mummies roaming the map to collect body parts.
- Once you have a head, torso and legs, craft a Frankenstein's table and put the parts in it.
- Wake your monster and control it with P. It follows you, defends you and attacks the targets you pick.
- If P is already bound, use the console command
bind X +pets (replace X with your key) or change it in the controls menu.
The Rift is open
Portals have appeared across the island. The lore blames cultists or a Cobalt experiment called R.U.I.N. Server owners can change how many there are with the halloweendungeon.population convar.
Gear to look for
- Wooden Stake: kills undead in one hit and gives extra loot. You find it on undead corpses.
- Dracula Cape: heavy protection, also dropped by the undead. The Dracula Mask gives early head protection and costs 10 cloth to craft.
- Seasonal skins are back too, including the Hockey Facemask, Cultist Deer Torch and Baseball Bat (a mace reskin).
Extras
- Twitch drops: the general Rust drops from Twitch Rivals Base Invaders can be earned on any Rust channel until 1 November. Link your Twitch and Steam accounts at https://twitch.facepunch.com/connect.
- Discord x Rust: from 22 October to 5 November, eligible Nitro subscribers can claim a Zombie Wumpus Plush with Discord Orbs in the Rust Game Shop on Discord. It gives 70% comfort when you're near it.
