Scrap is what keeps you moving in Rust, and most of it comes from recycling components. Here's what the official Facepunch wiki says about the two types of recycler and what you get from the most common parts.
Two recyclers, two rates
- Standard recycler (monuments): 60% yield, 5 seconds per cycle
- Safe Zone recycler (Outpost and Bandit Camp): 40% yield, 8 seconds per cycle
The safe zone recycler is protected, but it's slower and gives you a third less. If you have a lot to recycle and the monument is quiet, use the monument one.
What common components give (standard → safe zone)
- Tech Trash: 24 → 16 scrap, plus 1 HQM (and a 20% chance of 1 more)
- Electric Fuse: 24 → 16 scrap
- Rifle Body: 30 → 20 scrap, plus HQM
- SMG Body: 18 → 12 scrap, plus HQM
- Semi Automatic Body: 90 → 60 metal frags and 18 → 12 scrap, plus HQM
- Gears: 15 → 10 metal frags and 12 → 8 scrap
- Metal Spring: 12 → 8 scrap, plus HQM
- Sheet Metal: 120 → 80 metal frags and 9 → 6 scrap, plus HQM
- Road Signs / Metal Pipe: 6 → 4 scrap, plus HQM
- Sewing Kit: 12 → 8 cloth plus rope. Tarp: 60 → 40 cloth
Quick tips
- Keep the gears, springs and pipes you need for crafting, and recycle the rest.
- Tech Trash and Fuses are some of the best scrap you can carry, so don't drop them for a few frags.
- Recycle at a monument when it's safe, and use Outpost or Bandit Camp when you're carrying a lot of loot.
On our Veteranii X2 Classes server, recycling is the Scavenger's job (from level 3). The next full wipe is on 5 November, and from then on teams are max 3, with monthly wipes.
