Watching your own demos is one of the fastest ways to improve in Counter-Strike 2. You see your bad positions, slow rotations and wasted utility. Here are the console commands that make demo review quick.
Step 1: enable the console
Settings → Game → Enable Developer Console: Yes, then press ~ to open it.
Step 2: load a demo
playdemo mydemo
playdemo replays/match730_yourfilename
You don't need the .dem extension. Matchmaking demos sit in the replays folder, so they need the replays/ prefix.
Step 3: the essential commands
demoui – opens the demo control panel (same as Shift+F2): timeline, round selector, speed and player list.
demo_timescale 4 – fast-forward through boring rounds. Use 1 for normal speed and 0.5 or 0.25 for slow motion on a key duel.
demo_togglepause – pause or resume. demo_pause and demo_resume also work.
demo_gototick 7000 – jump to an exact tick. Valve matchmaking servers run at 64 ticks per second.
demo_marktick and demo_gotomark – mark a moment and come back to it as many times as you want.
spec_next / spec_prev – switch between players.
cl_draw_only_deathnotices 1 – hides the HUD except the crosshair and kill feed. Great for clean clips. Set it back to 0 afterwards.
Record your own POV
record mydemo
stop
This saves a demo of what you play, which you can watch later with playdemo mydemo.
How to review: watch each lost round at demo_timescale 0.5 from your own view, then switch to the enemy who killed you. Ask one question: where did the info come from? You will find mistakes you never noticed live.
