Big news from Seoul today: KRAFTON has confirmed that PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is becoming a live-action series on Netflix. Korean outlets Yonhap and Inven reported the announcement on 30 October, after US trade site Deadline broke the story a day earlier.
Who is making it
- Donald Glover – the Emmy and Golden Globe winner known for Atlanta (and as Childish Gambino) – will write, direct, star in and executive produce the series.
- His brother and long-time creative partner Stephen Glover joins as co-writer and executive producer.
- Other executive producers include Michael Schaefer (CCO of NEON TV) and Pam Udeorji of Glover's creative studio Gilga.
- From KRAFTON's side, its entertainment company LV3H is part of development and production, with CEO Jang Tae-seok and vice president Lee Su-jin listed as executive producers.
Why it matters
According to the Korean reports, KRAFTON first talked about turning PUBG into film and TV content back in 2020–2021, around its stock market listing. Until now that plan had only produced short live-action films such as Ground Zero. A full Netflix series is by far the biggest step for the IP outside the game.
What we don't know yet
There is no story outline, cast list beyond Glover, or release date. KRAFTON says more details will be shared later, so treat any "leaks" with caution until official news drops.
